Location Guide

Step 1: Identify Your Style

The style is simply identifying what type of photography you like. When chosing your style, we recommend that you pick no more then two. It is great to have variety within your wedding photography but a consistent style results in beautiful documentation of your wedding day.

How about a back alley with a fire escape, an old warehouse with interesting metalwork or worn windows? Graffiti, brick with peeling paint, or old signage can all serve as fantastic backdrops as well. If you are adventurous and like to explore, this setting can add striking contrast to you.

Natural settings are popular because outdoor light is so flattering and easy to work with. Most public parks work well for this type of session, or anywhere with trees, long paths, open grassy spaces, or ponds and fencing. If you like to be active and moving, a natural setting will provide the most freedom.

Nature has similar benefits to the natural approach to photograhy where you can make the most of the beautiful ambient light outside. It also allows for creative, blurred backgrounds. This option is a great for those that love the outdoor; if you are adventurous and like to explore, this setting is for you.

What are your passions? Channel that into a customized shoot somewhere you love. The barre at a dance studio? The golf course? With your surfboard at the beach? The possibilities are as limitless as your imagination.

Step 2: Choose Your Venue

Quality venues play a big part in creating the overall theme for your wedding. Places like Orlando Country and Hiwinui Country Estate have a lot of shoot locations on their property.

Orlando Country
Orlando Country, both in Palmerston North and Martin are incredible venues run by the nicest people we have worked with. Recite your wedding vows in our beautiful cliff edge gardens at the Orlando Country Estate overlooking the majestic hills of the Rangitikei, with panoramic views of Mt Ruapehu to Mt Taranaki, or if you choose you may wish to be married in the Orlando Chapel.

Hiwinui Country Estate
Hiwinui Country Estate is a luxury boutique lodge located just 15 minutes from the centre of Palmerston North on a tranquil rural estate. The spacious private lawns and gardens make it a popular venue for weddings. There are plenty of nice places for photographs over the large property.

Wharerata / Massey University
The sunken rose garden is the perfect spot for an outside ceremony or photo session - it's at its best in the months of October to April. The distinctive architecture, landscaping and year-round grandeur of the formal gardens provide spectacular photo opportunities.

Step 3: Additional Locations

Depending on your venue, you may need some extra places to photography. Here are a few that we have found work great for photography locations!
